about Louise

I am a Gestalt therapist living and working in Edinburgh. I have been working as a psychotherapist for over 10 years. I offer skilled support to people who wish to work on specific challenges in their lives, and to those who want to address more deep-seated unhappiness. I am a registered psychotherapist with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and I am accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) as a counsellor/psychotherapist. I am certified as a Gestalt psychotherapist by the Gestalt Associates Training Los Angeles (GATLA).

louise taitI work from four primary guiding principles:

  • compassion
  • respect
  • inclusion
  • confidentiality

In addition to working in private practice, I am part of Trauma Training Edinburgh, a group that offers training about working with people who have experienced trauma and loss. I also do some short-term Employer Assisted Counselling. Previously I have worked at a counselling service for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and volunteered as a counsellor and supervisor at a bereavement agency.

I have particular interests in:

  • attachment and loss
  • trauma
  • bereavement
  • childhood sexual abuse
  • depression
  • identity
  • sexuality and gender

I trained with the Edinburgh Gestalt Institute between 1998 - 2003. In order to maintain and improve my practice, I continued my professional development with the Gestalt Associates Training Los Angles (GATLA) and completed their accreditation process.

I am in regular supervision. I have been practicing Gestalt psychotherapy since 2001.
